Our direct route to school is closed for the whole of this term which is annoying to say the least….thankfully the diversions are not proving as bad as I feared but it did get me thinking about making the journey more interesting for us all.

As you may know from one of my previous posts, I’m a big fan of podcasts and audiobooks but could we find one that appealed to us all?

The boys are very interested in anything tech so my first stop was “World Wise Web” on the BBC Sounds App.  It features a series of short episodes where teenagers interview tech people who interest them – the inventor of the iPod, the lady who is leading the  development of socially assistive robots and the latest one is about GPS.

Inspired by our success, we continued on the BBC Sounds app and tried the fascinating series “30 Animals That Made Us Smarter” – a great listen for any budding nature enthusiasts or future engineers (although I’m neither and found it very interesting nonetheless).  Did you know that the owl and the kingfisher helped to break a new train record in Japan?!

I’m always a fan of Desert Island Discs.  The boys have also been inspired by listening to the episodes featuring Demis Hassabis, founder of Deepmind, the AI company (for anyone who is the same era as me, his music choices will definitely resonate!) and the rower Katherine Grainger.

We’ve got a long car journey to France coming up so I’d love to hear your suggestions for what to listen to as a family.
